12 Nintendo Franchises That Could Be Adapted Into Movies

Nintendo films are on their way!

As we've already reported, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that the video games company is finally considering licensing some of its franchises to Hollywood studios. Nintendo, of course, has famously shunned Hollywood since the disaster that was 1993's Super Mario Bros, which was undoubtedly one of the worst video game adaptations of all time (no easy feat). That stance may have softened somewhat recently, however. As Miyamoto explains,
As we look more broadly at what is Nintendo's role as an entertainment company, we€™re starting to think more and more about how movies can fit in with that - and we'll potentially be looking at things like movies in the future.
It's possible that this is due to the company's recent struggles in the market (the Wii U has failed to match the exploits of the PS4 and the Xbox One, paling in comparison with its ubiquitous predecessor), with a recognition that the most popular characters in the Nintendo canon could easily be marketed within other media in order to bring in more cash. Whatever the reasons, it's certainly fun to begin speculating on the potential film franchises that could be birthed by a Nintendo/Hollywood alliance. Here are 12 movie franchises that every Nintendo fan would absolutely love to see, along with a rating of how desirable they'd be, how likely they actually are to be produced (assuming Nintendo's plans go ahead), and a few casting suggestions for each movie.
