When you're a kid, you imagine adult life being an absolute playground of gaming freedom and possibility. Simply because we all spend our teens scraping together enough money to grab the latest GTA on release day, one of the perks of being an adult would surely be the ability to play whatever you want, whenever you want, right?

While you used to love nothing more than to revel in the trash-talking of online games - and you eventually grew into using the mic to boss around a well-coordinated team in Battlefield - public parties might as well not exist once you're in your twenties.

Because at some point, it stops being worth it to hear the tirades of hyped-up thirteen year-olds on the latest COD, as you're trying to find someone actually willing to engage with the game properly.

Trash-talking isn't inherently bad thing (and can be good fun), but when you're being berated by someone over a decade younger than you, the whole thing just gets a little bit too weird.

Everyone gets muted. Instantly. This is a dictatorship, and all online communication is outlawed.
