13 Most Frustrating Aspects Of E3 That Never Change

A CG trailer that tells us nothing? Yup, you're watching E3.

Halo Infinite
Microsoft

E3 is the biggest gaming event of the year, with hundreds of thousands of people actively waiting for it to come around again. It is where all the major announcements take place and it is the way for gaming developers to showcase their products and discuss how their games work. And yet... despite it being such a big phenomenon, there are still so many frustrating aspects that seem inclined to linger for years to come.

It is the same every year, with fans all having to wade through the mire of annoying grievances to get to the gems of gold the showcases offer. Because it's not like E3 is entirely worthless. It's just incredibly frustrating to have to sit through the same misguided presentations to arrive at the brief moments of utter brilliance.

And with E3 2018 wrapping up, it is clear that their annoyances have no intention of ever leaving. With the pillars of E3 all set in their ways, it is almost too easy to predict just how next year will go, and it is probably worth playing bingo with these points next year, as they will undoubtedly permeate into 2019.

13. Companies Showing Up, Despite Having Nothing To Show

Halo Infinite
Square Enix

At just half an hour long, Square Enix's 2018 presentation was emblematic of a more longstanding issue. E3 is such an institute of gaming that it is almost mandatory for people to show up, regardless of what they've got to show.

Last year it was Bethesda, who didn't have much to say beyond a few minor announcements, yet it dragged on for an hour. There is almost an obligation for developers to turn up and "make waves" even if it's more ticking a box than anything more meaningful.

For 2018, unfortunately Square Enix fell into this bracket. They may have had the intention of showcasing a lot, but they ultimately fell flat. It made watching such a stilted presentation incredibly annoying.
