14 Awesome 2017 Video Games You Probably Missed (So Far)

13. Nex Machina

The latest effort from shoot 'em up maestros Housemarque (Super Stardust HD, Resogun) is without question their best game to date, a frantic, visually outstanding shooter that's easy to pick up and play, but brilliantly, compulsively infuriating to master.

Though the campaign can be easily beaten in around an hour on lower difficulties, there's an immense amount of replayability in attempting to conquer the game on high difficulties, and of course, the addictive thrill of attempting to top one's own high score speaks for itself.

Above all else, Nex Machina is a major breath of fresh air amid the year's onslaught of huge, expansive AAA titles, especially with so many of them being open-world. This is by comparison a tightly focused, smoothly controlled and basically perfectly-executed experience.
