14 Best Monologues From The Max Payne Video Games

Has any character ever been so incredibly well written?

After recently reading an article detailing the best monologues in video games and noticing Max Payne's entry, I thought to myself: "Well, that miserable fellow deserves a list purely for himself!"

I'm quite a fan, but even from an objective and unbiased standpoint; the Max Payne games really do deserve tributes such as this - if not only to gain recognition for something other than inventing Bullet-Time, for a change.

Indeed, Mr. Payne spews out interesting dialogue and monologues like a hyperactive vending machine, and despite what fans may or may not think about Max Payne 3, it's only fair that at least one of that game's quotes place here, too.

As usual, you'll probably have some of your own favourites that I've missed, so by all means leave them in the comments below. Here's to Rockstar - or better yet, Remedy - releasing Max Payne 4, and for now, here are some of Max's finest lines so far...

14. "The Way I See It, There's Two Types Of People...

... those who spend their lives trying to build a future, and those who spend their lives trying to rebuild the past. For too long I've been stuck in between, hidden in the dark."

One of the more "closer to the originals" sounding lines from Max Payne 3 that, funnily enough, comes after that drastic, controversial shift in tone and aesthetic when Max has shaved his head and ventures into the bright, poor slums of Sao Paulo.

It's a line that greatly represents the point Max is at in his life after the first two games, stuck in between guilt and regret over the past, and looking forward, looking for a way out, but not quite reaching it.
