The world is full of controversies and nothing is considered immune -- not even video games. Although the art of video games is seemingly harmless despite all the so-called research that claims otherwise, there are times when even the mere virtual depiction of imagination can be considered offensive. And every year, it's the same song and dance for gamers everywhere. In this list, we sum up those most recent incidents (during the 21st century) involving a video game franchise that inadvertently came to blows with its audience. Whether it's the depiction of characters or the way their story ended or how it was all delivered through a platform, these franchises have done their fair share of hitting too close to home. As the rule, we will be focusing on one select controversy per franchise that truly enraged a mass of gamers. In addition, there will be some spoilers ahead so consider yourself warned. The Xbox One Reveal Debacle

The title says it all on this one. During the days and months leading up to the fateful Xbox Reveal on May, 2013, the world spent the grueling wait scanning through the internet buzz and speculating on what Microsoft's next-gen console. And the closer we got to the moment of truth, the heavier the atmosphere weighed in. Things were suppose to get ecstatic on the final day. But when zero hour finally came, those of us who witnessed its reveal got the shock of our lives. Besides its ridiculously confusing name, the Xbox One console got its rounds demolishing our every expectations. According to Microsoft's initial plans for the console, the Xbox One would strip all gamers of their liberties with their games thanks to an array of DRM policies. Users would also have to part with their own privacy thanks to a constantly watchful eye in the form of Kinect 2.0, a motion sensing camera and mandatory add-on which came bundled with every Xbox One sold. Thankfully, the reason the Xbox One Reveal debacle didn't make it on this list is due to a frightened Microsoft reversing "most of those policies" in fear of the roaring backlash from consumers.
