The biggest games in general might have come at the beginning and end of the year, but when 2019 was firing on all cylinders, there was nothing better.

Positively firing out the gates with Resident Evil 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3, we moved into the phenomenal rollout of Mortal Kombat 11, Apex Legends, Devil May Cry 5 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

There were some hiccups in between and a middle third where things just carried on as normal, but this furious pace was then mirrored at the close of the year, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Outer Worlds, Death Stranding, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Pokémon Sword & Shield.

New consoles offered surprises too, with the delightful Mega Drive Mini and Switch Lite being received with open arms, while an all-digital Xbox appeared to serve no one, and Google Stadia crashed, burned and continues to rage aflame to this day.

All of this is to say that 2019 had a ton of high points and worthwhile takeaways. As for the other side of the coin though?

Eeesh.
