15 Awesome Video Games From 2017 You Probably Missed

15. Nioh

Nioh Complete Edition 6
neptunegames.it

Of all the overlooked games in a post-Dark Souls world, Nioh is one of the most meticulously well designed.

Coming from action maestros Team Ninja (of Ninja Gaiden fame), you can tell they wanted to create another landmark success, being Ninja Gaiden 3 was... less than acceptable, shall we say.

Nioh then, learns every possible lesson from Souls and Bloodborne, upping the general pace to match the devs' prior work. You not only have three stances per weapon to get used to, but any defeated players from other games will populate your world with optional avatars to defeat for loot. There's not a microtransaction in sight, but it does mean that picking a spot near a save point and grinding out some fights will be immediately worth your while.

Combat itself is the best part, coming to life regardless of what size enemy you fight, but really showing off just how lightning-fast it can be when duelling any human-sized opponents.

Nioh is the finest "Souls-like" outside of FromSoftware's walls, and an absolutely essential action game.
