It might have had a slight lull in the Summer months, but 2018 is easily the best year for gaming this generation.

From the sheer variety of genres, gameplay mechanics, narrative and thematic tones to the way the industry has reduced the ugliness of microtransactions and abundances of DLC, it was a consumer-focused 12 months, and one that birthed some phenomenal titles.

Even what feels like everyone's top three (Spider-Man, Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War) are themselves drastically different from one another, and on the indie side, VGA winner Celeste has done the unprecedented. Creative lead Matt Thorson and his team crafted something that twins old-school pixel platforming with an empowering dissection of mental struggle; a message that netted them a "Games for Change" award, and an accolade that elevates the medium overall.

Yes, these bodies of work are all recommendable, if not essential, but which parts of them truly stood out? Which are the "favourite scenes" of 2018's games?

Note: Spoilers flagged where appropriate, but Spider-Man's post-credits scene sits at no.3.
