17 Awesome 2014 Video Games You Might've Missed

A classic HD remake, the best skateboarding game since Tony Hawk's and...a goat simulator!

So many games are released each year these days that it's absolutely impossible to keep up with everything. When the likes of Dragon Age: Inquisition takes up 50+ hours of your time, how are you supposed to find room to play every critically acclaimed title under the sun? Even so, these 17 games stand out because they were both acclaimed by critics and flew a little under the radar, such that you might not even be aware of their existence. Yes, this list consists primarily of indie fare because, of course, do AAA games with a big studio behind them really need the publicity? These smaller-scale games deserve your attention because they were made outside "the system" for the most part, but that didn't stop them being any less artistic, assured and entertaining than what you'd find at a higher price point. What indies give gamers is a greater feeling of diversity, of unpredictability and riskiness also, that anything can happen and every creative decision doesn't have to conform to appease shareholders. As such, these 17 games were each a breath of fresh air and absolutely worth shelling out their minuscule asking price for. With the graveyard period of the gaming year looming, what possible excuse could you have not to?
