18 Things Only Gamers In Their 20s Will Understand

Skyrim remastered? Who has the time?!

Everything's better when you're younger; movies, first experiences, Marvel, you know.

For video games though, there's just something so wide-eyed and innocent about that first journey through Hyrule, your first chainsaw kill in Gears of War or a game with 'more than 60 hours of gameplay' not making you run for the hills. It was a simpler time, one where the idea of a daylight hour-sucking foray into another world - a home away from home, if you will - provided endless opportunities to escape the humdrum nature of things like school or university life.

Then there's the technological side of things and the industry itself; something that's advanced at a frightening pace. For the most part the uber-shiny caked-in-dynamic lighting models of 2016's gaming scene will leave your head-spinning in all the right ways - minus certain characters you held so dear being put through the mass-market grinder and emerging with 'attitude' by way of tribal tattoos, anyway.

There's been fads and trends, hot new properties with their gritty template characters and enough pre-order tat to open your own market stall - gaming's just a part of your life instead of the reason for living in the first place, and it's about time there was some acknowledgement of the realisations that come along with that.

18. You Finally Have The Money To Buy Everything, But No Time To Play It All

"Well you can have one now, and the other will have to wait 'til Xmas", the immortal words uttered by every parent as you stood there bursting at the seams trying to decide (circa 2001) whether Devil May Cry was worth buying instead of Jak and Daxter.

Cut to 2016 though and you've got a nicely paying job, the notes from which will buy you your wildest disc-based dreams - as well as bringing about the crushing realisation you're never going to have time to finish anything outside of the main story, if that.

Oh, and don't even mention how many games you re-bought on that last Steam sale, either.
