20 Best Video Game Boss Battles Of The Decade (So Far)

4. El Impoluto - Assassin's Creed: Black Flag

The Assassin's Creed franchise was starting to creak a little at the seams in late 2013, and needed something fresh and original to prevent it being a flop. Battling your adversaries in great big pirate ships, as ideas go, was a great one.

It wasn't for everyone of course, but the nautical elements offered seasoned AC gamers something brand new to really get their teeth into, and were about as close to a boss fight as the franchise had been in a while. Combat between two vessels was, granted, largely cinematic, but that didn't stop the blood from pounding through your veins when you did it.

The most challenging of all these vessels was the El Impoluto which, unless you were in command of a vastly upgraded ship yourself, would reduce you to driftwood in seconds. It packed enough firepower to blow you out of the water, was strong and quick enough to just ram you, and gave the game's single most satisfying moment when you finally saw it sink below the water.
