20 Best Video Game Multiplayer Modes Of All Time

19. Virus - Timesplitters 2/Future Perfect

There are many, many reasons why Timesplitters not being a thing in 2017 is a travesty, but its multiplayer is one of the biggest.

From colourful deathmatches to things like a Vampire mode health-drains and the fan-favourite Monkey Assistant, Virus remains one of the coolest modes to ever grace an FPS. Starting out with either a player or random bot being 'infected' (read: On fire), it's a last man standing race to escape as more and more people get converted to the dark side.

Cut to the end of a match when one person is frantically sprinting away from the entire round's worth of oncoming zombies, firing in all directions as around every corner comes the chance of defeat. Like all the best aspects of playing tag mixed with a sense of flow that slowly becomes more diametrically opposed, it's a shame Timesplitters and modes like this didn't survive the 2000s.
