20 Best Video Games Of The Generation (So Far)

3. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

There's a reason The Witcher 2 was given to President Obama during his visit to Poland in 2011 - both developers CD Projekt RED and the Polish PM Donald Tusk are so proud of the franchise, they'll happily show it off for all to see. Funnily enough, that mentality will emerges after spending a few hours in any Witcher game, but Wild Hunt is by far the most ambitious and detailed of them all so far.

Twinning an incredibly complex open-world with tons of expertly written quests, items to find, weapons to craft, and intricately designed, complex beasts to slay, no two players will have the same experience. The gigantic Continent feels like it takes Skyrim's expansive 'chase the horizon' scope, before blending it with a harsh and bleak Game of Thronesian tone, meaning within minutes you can go from taking down a sky-eclipsing Griffin, to becoming embroiled in some political tensions down the local tavern.

It creates all sorts of spiralling loops of gameplay that are just as rewarding as one another, but a pure love of Andrzej Sapkowski's source material comes across in every line of dialogue, every etched marking on a piece of the environment and every stitch of clothing on Geralt's ageing frame.
