Possibly thanks to the past few summery months being relatively threadbare when it came to triple-A head-turners, it's very easy to think the best of the year is behind us.

After all, this is a year that started with Resident Evil 7 and Yakuza 0, only to segue incredibly into The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nioh and NieR: Automata. Not to mention genuinely phenomenal indie gems like Pyre, Night in the Woods, Tacoma and What Remains of Edith Finch filling out our respective must-play lists, too.

Though, in the words of Liquid Snake, "It's not over yet!", as at first ask you might struggle to get past Destiny 2, Star Wars Battlefront II and "the next Mario" when asked on the spot, the remainder of 2017 has a monumentally important release schedule for the next few months.

From sequels to remakes, experimental one-offs to new franchise starters, it'll take something mighty special to stop Zelda and Horizon from duking it out and claiming the top spot, but here are 20 potential candidates that'll make their mark regardless.
