25 Best Video Games Of The 90s

1. Tekken 3

For the top spot, something that's gameplay perfected; a sublime mix of responsive combat, character variety, unlockable content and endless replayability to keep you pushing on. The most feature-complete Tekken in everything from the roster itself to modes like Tekken Ball or Force that could easily be standalone releases, the first two games already proved combat could be done in three-dimensions, but this third one expanded everything that made the originals so engaging and viscerally responsive. We didn't need online play to experience just how enjoyable competitive play could be, or how balanced each and every one of the fighters was, we had couch co-op to do that for us - and that's without mentioning the surprisingly solid narrative that tied everything together in the Arcade mode, actually making you want to unlock every single cinematic ending. Final Fantasy VII might have world-building and emotional resonance, Metal Gear Solid the entire might of controlling a Hollywood blockbuster, but for the minute-to-minute playability of Tekken 3, with every single part of it contributing to make it the complete package, there's just nothing better.
