5 Most Memorable Video Game Hoaxes

1. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - Leatherface And Other Serial Killers

It isn't a surprise that GTA: SA it's number one on the list. And why shouldn't it? Out of all the games on this list it belongs to not only one of the series with most easter eggs and urban legends about it, but it's also the game that has the most of them. There are so many legends and myths surrounding the game, but we'll just focus on one of them...for now. What's The Story? According to the legend, Leatherface (the main antagonist from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series) makes an appearance in the game. You have to travel to the San Andreas countryside and just look for the character. That's it. You don't need to look for some kind of special item or to do some other mission in order to unlock him. Just go to the woods and try to find a sociopath with a chainsaw. That kind of thing made the people believe the myth because, unlike any other myth that has appeared on the list so far, this one was quite simple. And with some pretty convincing screenshots showcasing the character many of us actually believed that he was in the game. But, as time came by the truthfulness of the myth was questioned by the rest of the fans. When the myth changed to include other serial killers like Piggsy from Manhunt, it became obvious that it was just one of the many urban legends of the game. The Truth Behind The Hoax While we don't know who was the author behind this hoax, it is one of the most memorable ones in the history of gaming. And what made the thing even greater was the incredible screenshots that were taken for the posts about the character. Sure, many of the other myths had screenshots to prove that the myth was real, but the ones about this game in particular were actually pretty good. Now we have the magic of Mods to change the game's data and to have him running around the woods of San Andreas just like we all wanted. Now you just have to travel over there and kill the man who you've been waiting to face for so long. Hurray!
