5. Newspaper Tycoon
While today newspapers are seen by some as archaic, there is no doubt that they are still massive organisations with huge numbers of staff and loads of influence. Such a place seems like the natural place to situate a game. The game could be situated either as the owner or the editor of a newspaper who bosses around reporters telling them where to go to find the next big story. Paparazzi could be dispatched to get photos of celebrities in compromising positions if you prefer a more tabloid paper, though I'd assume this would have to be balanced out with the threat of being sued for big bucks. You could also tinker with the design of the paper and what sort of journos the gamer would want want to work for them and if the Sunday guide has anything different. The competition would come not only from rival newspapers but also from the online media. As the game progresses gamers may need to find ways to crack into the online market with their own online newspaper. Perhaps other options could become open to making money- such as Online passes. Overall though, there is much potential in the world of print media to make a tycoon game warranted. But there is the option of going bigger...
