6 Most Overquoted Lines From Video Games

6. You Were Almost a Jill Sandwich!

This beautifully crap line comes to us courtesy of the great Resident Evil (1), an iconic title from the early days of survival horror and considered by some to be the father of the genre. Although the Resi franchise now spends its time juggling poo and shouting €˜BANG!€™ for the amusement of shooter fans rather than doing anything of note, their first instalment was considered a pretty terrifying affair, with relentless enemies and a chilling atmosphere leading many to believe brown porridge had been poured down the back of their trousers. A line such as this is therefore pretty out of place among the giant snake fights and swarms of carnivorous crows, leading to it being picked up by many players as something that should be relentlessly quoted at their friends whenever they€™d avoided some form of physical danger. Of course when the internet got hold of the phrase a few years later Chris€™ not-so-witty one-liner started being used for almost anything, primarily by young teens who€™d never even played the game. Eventually escaping any sort of trouble at all, whether it be a fight, slipping on some ice, or just a firm telling-off, would result in this phrase being squawked at you enthusiastically by whichever half-wit friend was closest by. €˜You were almost a Jill sandwich€™ transformed from a humours ironic gag into something more unwelcome than a vegan at a BBQ. It makes sixth because it was overused to the point of being despised, but, unlike some of the others in this list, people have now thankfully stopped using it, so it isn€™t relevant enough to make it to a higher spot.
