Backstage brawling was one of WWE 2K17's biggest selling points, but the execution was mixed. The feature's return was welcome after several years of exclusion, but it was limited to one-on-one encounters, and let down by a lack of variety. Players were restricted to just a handful of different rooms and scenes, meaning the brawls became very samey, very quickly.

Fortunately, it sounds like 2K have expanded the backstage area exponentially this year. MyCAREER promises a condensed open world experience, with players encouraged to spend time interacting with other WWE Superstars, building relationships, and exploring the game's many "unique personalities."

Instead of presenting players with a menu to decide whom they wish to align with or attack, 2K18 will let you do it all in a living, breathing locker-room environment. Want to beat up John Cena or conduct an interview with Renee Young? No problem, just stroll right up to them.

2K promise that there'll be "no shortage of personalities backstage," claiming you'll bump into everybody from Superstars and GMs to interviewers and tailors, many of whom will offer side quests and diverging storylines, transforming MyCAREER into a full-on wrestling RPG.
