7 Ways Capcom Can Make Resident Evil 7 A Success

With Resi 6 a bit of a stinker and a rumoured announcement only five weeks away, what would it take for you to get back into Resident Evil?

The Resident Evil franchise has been long been associated with the horror genre, more notably being one of the founding games to craft the genre of 'survival horror' itself along the way. The series has long taken horror elements in its stride and suitably carved a catalogue of sequels and spin-offs that capitalised on the construction of a new genre, but with recent entries to the Resident Evil franchise further deviating away from the roots of the early games and placing a broader focus on Hollywood-esque set pieces and explosive gun-fights causing the series to have an identity crisis, Resi as it stands is now merely a brand name with an entirely different formula all together in the sixth entry - somewhat entirely losing what made it stand out from its peers. Rumours have long circulated about a seventh entry to the series, but the question remains; would it return to its roots with pure survival-horror or is the Call Of Duty crowd too important to not attract with blazing shoot-outs? The annual E3 Expo is right around the corner and with Capcom supposedly debuting their next effort with the franchise at the show, it remains to be seen whether Resident Evil can show us it still has some life within it and scares to be had or if it needs to forget its origins entirely and become a gung-ho shoot-em-up. As horror-centric games are seemingly on the rise in both reception and popularity with the likes of Daylight, Slender Man, Amnesia and Outlast, let us delve into the storied past of the franchise and detail some of the mechanics and features that should be reinstated to propel such an established progenitorial franchise back into both the hearts of ardent fans and a new generation of gamers.
