8 Awesome Examples Of Outrageous Overkill In Gaming

6. Archimedes I €“ Fallout New Vegas

Archimedes When first exploring the HELIOS One facility, you might not know quite what the ramifications might be. For all you know, you€™re exploring an abandoned €“ and curiously untouched €“ solar power plants with the aim of either providing power to specific settlements or destroying it so no-one can get their hands on such a potential game-changer. Yet there€™s a third option €“ you can use the plant€™s energy to fire up a gigantic orbital laser €“ named Archimedes I €“ capable of reining hellfire upon your foes. If you didn€™t take that option, you€™re a coward with very little imagination. Because let€™s face it, operating a satellite made you feel like a Bond villain, and everyone loves that feeling of power. Being able to harness the sun to make the wrath of the gods descend on your enemy was a unique thrill and a (quite literal) blast to boot. It killed anything in moments, from Deathclaws to Super Mutants, and wielding it in an environment where people are still throwing rocks at each other made you feel like the king of the Mojave Desert. Yet what€™s the point of feeling like a king if you aren€™t able to exercise a little wanton cruelty now and again? After all, we all get bored, and it€™s not every day we€™re able to command the superweapon from Die Another Day. So you got creative, setting it upon punier and punier targets to find the very definition of overkill. Frankly, I don€™t think you€™ve lived until you€™ve set it upon a raider armed with nought but a pool queue. It sort of blows the idea of bringing a gun to a knife fight out of the water €“ after all, why do that when you can bring an orbital laser to a club fight €“ and the results were appropriately ridiculous.
