7. WCW Mayhem 2

TNA Impact 2
EA

After Kodiak Interactive's ridiculous decision to remove the ring from a wrestling game in the utterly rank WCW Backstage Assault drew righteous criticism from both critics and the Atlanta promotion's few remaining fans, publishers EA handed development duties over to No Mercy vets Aki Corporation.

The new studio wisely decided to bring the action back in from the outside, beginning development on WCW Mayhem 2, a souped-up PS2 sequel to Kodiak's perfectly passable previous effort.

Unfortunately, AKI's grand designs were soon consigned to the dustbin. When WWE purchased WCW in March 2001, EA's contract went kaput in the process. The studio's efforts weren't completely in vain however; their work was recontextualised for 2003's ludicrous, Ludacris hip-hop grappling sim Def Jam Vendetta.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
