8 Classic Star Wars Games You Have To Check Out

8. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)

SW1 The game that started it all. My personal début as a Star Wars gamer began with the tie-in release to The Phantom Menace. Admittedly, at the age of just seven, I never completed the game when first I bought it. In fact, I don't think I got very far at all. My overwhelming memory of the game is of Obi-Wan Kenobi's frequent death at the hands of a droideka squadron on the Trade Federation ship. In fact, that was only the first level. Since then, I re-bought the game at a local pawn shop and played it until completion. Having shown obvious signs of ageing, The Phantom Menace is by no means a pretty game. It's by no means a clever game, either. In fact, The Phantom Menace received a very mixed reception upon its initial release. Indeed, the game was somewhat hampered by a frustratingly clunky control system. But, these factors aside, The Phantom Menace is a truly enjoyable experience. Amongst the features that ensured the game stood out were the vast range of weapon choice, the multitude of playable characters, and the series of challenging boss fights. Ultimately, The Phantom Menace is not a game that will be long remembered. Yet, if you're willing to set aside its flaws, you'll find a light and entertaining gem buried beneath its surface.
