From the marketing of the upcoming Halo: Infinite, 343 already looks to be trying something new with Xbox's headliner franchise when it supposedly debuts next year. Yet, if the studio really wants to bring Master Chief back in style, the wisest bet would be to trace the series' movements backwards instead of setting off in a brand new direction.

Halo has lost its charm increasingly over the years, and while many would say it's just down to fatigue, the reality is that 343 have often dropped the ball when it comes to understanding what made the franchise such a hit.

The early games had an aura and simplicity to them that made them ruthlessly enjoyable and addictive, whether that's in the story, the visuals or the multiplayer.

If 343 wants to bring Halo back to the forefront with a bang, they need to put Master Chief back in a story that resembles what made the franchise great. Bring the iconic space marine back to a ring of halo, simplify the narrative back to Chief kicking ass through a hostile world and give us hordes of Covenant soldiers to eradicate.

Throw in some addictive multiplayer akin to that of Halo 2 and you've got yourself a strong reboot that could breathe some much-needed life into this dying series.
