Although the Devil May Cry series has lain dormant for several years, protagonist Dante has at least gotten his hands dirty in the Marvel vs. Capcom series, and there are bigger things waiting on the horizon.

If a report by ResetEra is to be believed, Devil May Cry V is in the planning stages and is set to be revealed during Sony's press conference at E3 next year.

Since Devil May Cry IV was released in 2008, the series has been given a divisive reboot, but the fifth core instalment will allegedly revert to the previous continuity and the original, white-haired version of Dante.

The report adds that the hack 'n' slash sequel will be released "some time in the fiscal calendar year of 2019", which could mean anywhere between April 2018 and March 2019, but an E3 reveal suggests a 2019 launch is most likely.

Hideaki Itsuno, who directed Devil May Cry 2 through to 4, is said to be behind the new game and PlayStation 4 exclusivity has also been mentioned, although it's unclear whether this will be timed.
