8 Video Games That Punish You For Taking A Break!

NEVER. STOP. PLAYING.

Shenmue II
Sega

It's a pretty obvious statement, but video games are meant to be played. Well unless you're The Longing which actively makes players wait 400 days to finish it but I feel that's an exception. In nearly every other example, games are designed for player interaction and for them to impact the events on screen with control inputs.

With our direction video game protagonists literally come to life, slaying hordes of enemies, taking down monstrous bosses, and running rampant in online shooters. However, even though these video games are good to go at any given moment, we humans are a little more prone to basic needs like sleeping, eating, and using the bathroom and so will have to take a break every once in a while.

Well my friend, before you put down that controller, you best make sure to pause or exit the game in some fashion, because if there's anything that a title likes less than apparently releasing without a litany of bugs in this day and age, it's players who leave them standing idle!

8. Sonic Kills Himself - Sonic CD

Shenmue II
SEGA

It's a very well-known fact that Sonic The Hedgehog does indeed like to "go fast". Whether he's zipping through lush green hills, or through the cold reaches of space in an effort to roll the rotund villain, Dr Eggman, out of existence, he's always go, go, go!

In fact, it can become quite aggressive with how insistent he is to always be on the move, and there's no better example of this than in Sonic CD, where if the player isn't keeping pace, he'll throw himself into oblivion!

If Sonic is left idle, he'll begin to tap his foot impatiently and check his watch occasionally in order to motivate you into moving him, however, if you manage to spend around two minutes answering your phone or the door, or explaining to a friend why Sonic '06 is genuinely a really good game (which some Sonic fans staunchly defend for some reason) then the chilli dog eating champion will finally give up waiting AND KILL HIMSELF leading to an instant Game Over.

Pretty harsh!
