9 Disastrous Mistakes That Killed Star Wars Battlefront 2

8. Locking Characters Like Vader & Luke Behind Huge Credit Amounts

Another thing that could've easily been communicated across the year, EA and DICE want Battlefront 2 to be a "service", just as much as an enjoyable, in-the-moment video game. You can see this in their seasonal plans for new maps and characters, as clearly they want a fanbase to "drop in" every few months, enjoying a constant stream of new content every time.

To that end, Luke and Vader (among others) were first priced at 60,000 credits a piece to unlock. Bearing in mind an average match only gives you around 350 credits, it would take a LONG time to get either Skywalker, never mind the full set of characters.

Thing is, there was a method to the madness, as such a slow burn could've factored into weeks or months-worth of play - keeping in mind the whole "games as a service" model.

EA even mentioned that unlocking Luke and Vader would “provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment”, which it would have, if they communicated the whole "year long game" idea.
