9. Feebas And Milotic Are Knock-offs Of Magikarp And Gyarados
Though the designs in their final evolutions are quite different the general idea of these Pokémon is quite similar. A rather crappy fish becomes a serpentine God with a great deal of effort. In the case of Magikarp - it's a pathetically weak heap of scales and bone which becomes a monstrously powerful sea serpent with similarities to a dragon, but only after painstakingly leveling the lame carp. Feebas is a rare, but extraordinarily hideous fish who is identical to a Magikarp with flesh rot. If you want the majestic Milotic - also akin to a sea serpent - you have to level it up while hyper-increasing its beauty stat. Both Gyarados and Milotic are great Pokémon and represent the best in design but this doesn't save Game Freak from recycling a concept already dished out in the first generation. While it's true that one should have to work hard to make any weak Pokémon strong there's no need to keep dishing out completely undesirable creatures whose only selling point are their incredibly strong/beautiful evolutions.
