9 Short Sentences That Ruin Major Video Games

9. Solid Snake Can't See The Soliton Radar Or Codec Screen

Is it any surprise that the most bizarre entry on this list would go to something out of the mind of Hideo Kojima? When Solid Snake is sent to Shadow Moses Island in Metal Gear Solid, he's injected with nanomachines that give him a radar, a transmitter (known as the codec) and "anti-NBC defence systems". While the first two items are extraordinarily helpful to us as gamers, the more you think about it, the less they make any sense at all. The Soliton Radar is a great piece of kit for Snake. It allows him to see enemies via their heat signatures and also shows their cone of vision, greatly helping his ability to progress stealthily. The radar is referenced frequently and gets jammed whenever Snake puts the guards into a state of alert... yet he can't actually see it. For some reason, this piece of equipment exists within Metal Gear Solid's universe but offers absolutely no benefit to anybody that uses it in the field. The Codec is similar, though at least the idea makes sense within the universe. It's an in-ear radio that allows Snake to call and communicate with anyone using a similar device. In-game, we can enter frequencies and select the person who we want to talk to through a menu screen... but how does Snake actually do that though? If the Codec is within his own body - and no exterior device is ever shown being used - how does he select someone to call? Why does it seem to stop time whenever he uses it? We know you love to break the fourth wall Hideo, but can we at least have some reasoning behind this black magic device?

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
