8. Mario & Sonic At The Rio 2016 Olympic Games

It may have as much to do with the actual Olympic Games as Mario Tennis has to do with Wimbledon, but let's just ignore the official Rio 2016 licensing that was crowbarred into the title, and appreciate what should be solid multiplayer party game. Granted, the series has a bit of a patchy history, and you can't help but get the feeling that Sonic and the Sega crew don't really enjoy being the sympathy guests at what is essentially a big celebratory orgy for the Nintendo ensemble. But casting aside the completely fabricated feelings of Sega or Nintendo characters (who really have about as much personality as your childhood Beanie Baby collection), this Olympic mashup looks set to have a multiplayer-oriented set of games, including football, boxing rugby and volleyball, as well as button-mashy classics like sprints and swimming. As someone who's always had a soft spot for olympic sports games and the simple, quick-fix competitive fun they offer, I've been frustrated by the lack of good offerings in the genre. Perhaps its entry on this list is more out of hope than how likely it is to actually be any good. Still, here's hoping...
