After Skyrim: 10 Awesome Predictions for the Future of the Elder Scrolls Series

10. Elder Scrolls: Apocalypse

In each Elder Scrolls game to date, we€™ve began the game as an unwitting participant, usually a prisoner or convict of sorts, in a web of mystery and intrigue much greater than ourselves. Over the course of massive, open stories, we€™ve found ourselves in a pivotal role for the fate of mankind against ancient and malevolent threats seeking to claim Tamriel for themselves. But what if, in the next game, the Elder Scrolls told of a cataclysmic event that actually came to pass during the opening of the game. Instead of coming in at the beginning, we€™d assumed the role of a survivor, joining one story at its end as we began our own. Imagine some ancient Daedra Lord had succeeded in his dark mission and our opening tutorial chapter was actually set during Tamriel€™s initial apocalypse. As a survivor, it€™d be our job to usurp this ancient Daedra (or equivalent nasty) from his seat of power, wherever that may be located. Imagine if you will, a cross between your typical Elder Scrolls game and Bethesda€™s other flagship title Fallout; a dark, ruined world where only sporadic pockets of survivors remain. It€™d be a whole new tone for the Elder Scroll€™s series which up until now has remained firmly within its high-fantasy boundaries. Maybe now is time to start blending the genres and maybe the high-fantasy/post apocalypse blend is just the right way for Bethesda to go about it.
