What features might be over the new horizon of the next Animal Crossing?

Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn’t too far away now, having had its release date of March 20, 2020 confirmed at E3. It’s a little later than we were expecting, but that’s done nothing to dampen fans enthusiasm for the upcoming title.

The town builder sees you get aboard Tom Nook’s ferry and land on an island, where you’ll do all the usual Animal Crossing collecting and building.

From here, you’ll be able to upgrade and improve your town bit by bit, and get to know all the animal neighbours in your new paradise. Gathering and crafting have been added here, as well as the funky addition of a smartphone to use on the island.

The game has a considerable fanbase, and as with any major title there’s plenty of requests, wants and wishes they’re dying to see in this instalment of the series.

The game has been delayed to 2020, and here it feels like a good thing.

Sometimes it gives the image of a developer scrambling, but here it sounds like Nintendo just wants to avoid stressful crunch as their devs put the finishing touches on what is, hopefully, Animal Crossing’s most ambitious venture ever.

10. Tool Wheel

A few of these are just the sort of "Oh, wouldn’t it be fun if..." kind of improvements or additions, but when it comes to a tool wheel, it really feels like a necessity.

There are so many different items you need for the various in game collectibles. They just take up a lot of space, take a long time to find and generally feel a bit disorganised. Not to mention that actually equipping them is quite slow, and in New Horizons there really needs to be something done about this.

With the game coming to the Switch for this first time, this may mean more collectibles and thus more items needed to collect said equipment; if nothing is done the problem will only get worse.

An easy to access tool wheel which lets you get out your fishing rod on the fly when you reach the shore would be a fairly simple update and save a lot of hassle.

They could even have the player character wearing a tool belt, one which gets chunkier with each upgrade as you make your merry way around the island.
