Are Disney Gearing Up To Make Their Own Star Wars Games?

EA's empire could be coming to an end.

It's no secret that EA's handling of the Star Wars video game license has been controversial. In the five years since they came on board, they've only released two AAA games (both in the Battlefront series), and cancelled promising titles fans were looking forward to. There's hope on the horizon in the form of Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, and DICE have turned Battlefront 2 around in a huge way, but for many fans, that's too little, too late.

Fortunately for them, it looks like Disney themselves are ramping up their own Star Wars development team. After canning LucasArts shortly after giving EA the rights, the company turned their focus to Lucasfilm Games, a studio they started to aid development on other SW titles, like Battlefront 2 and Galaxy of Heroes. Recent job listings suggest they're ramping up the team, with a whole host of job listings being advertised on their website, including positions for producers, brand art coordinators, art directors, software engineers and gameplay engineers.

On the one hand, this drive could simply be down to the team needing more hands on deck to aid with the games they're already helping out on, but the sheer breadth of positions does suggest that bigger things are afoot. EA still have the license for a good couple of years, but if rumours are to be believed and Disney are indeed frustrated over their handling of it, then this could be a sign that they're gearing up to bring the franchise back in-house at some point in the future.
