Are Legendary About To Announce A Live-Action Pokemon Movie?

Who would you cast as Ash?

Nintendo

In a major shakeup ofChinese and Japanesecompanies butting heads over the rights to thePokémon as a series, Californiancompany Legendary are attempting to step in and take the reigns fora future film.

The story comes via The Hollywood Reporter, as although the majority of the articleconcerns Legendary going up against Warner Bros. to secure the rights to Nintendo's landmark franchise, the biggest takeaway is that it's all in service of a "big-budgetlive-action movie."

Now, Poké-fans will have mostly fond memories of the series' silver screen adaptations - or rather, the 1999 original, as the sequels never really lived up to the same interest levels as its debut - but the idea of a live-action Pokémon flick? That means casting Ash, Misty and Brock, rendering hundreds of Pokémon in a mostlyrealistic fashion, whilst retaining the anime sensibilities and carefree nature of the humour within the show.

Don't get me wrong, I'm well up for seeing a hugely intimidating,dragon-likeCharizard swooping in and dominating a reveal trailer, but something about going live-action with a well-respected anime franchise brings back horrible memories of the dreadful Dragon Ball Z adaptation.

On the other hand, The Jungle Book managed to cross dimensions into the 3D realm with grace, paying tribute to its origins but offering a modern take on the source material. Here's to Pokémon's live-action version doing the same - providing thecompanies involved can agree on something first.
