Assassin's Creed Syndicate Hands-On Review: 9 Things We Learned

9. 'Loyalty' Is A New Mechanic In The Series

We already knew that the likes of Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens are present in Assassin's Creed Syndicate (because these bookish geniuses are exactly the kind of people you'd expect professional killers to hang out with), but it turns out that you need to earn their loyalty before they start helping you out. Assassin's Creed Syndicate features a 'Loyalty' system, so completing side-missions for the city's colourful characters builds up your relationships with them. I carried out one such mission for what must've been the 10-year-old leader of a gang of street urchins (they grow up ever-so fast on the grimy streets of London). After carrying out a mission for her in which I had to save some kids from working in squalid conditions at a sweatshop, my loyalty bar went up. I'm told that once you earn someone's full loyalty, they'll provide you with special rewards, such as new weapons and gear for yourself and your gang. While I didn't have enough time to earn anyone's full loyalty, this mechanic is a good way to incentivise building relationships with the game's supporting cast.
