Oddly though, Treyarch's game won't be titled "Black Ops 4" or even "Black Ops IV", but will be adopting the rather strange stylised moniker "Black Ops IIII". Obviously, it's a bit weird for the devs to not stick with the regular roman numeral system, but it does make sense in terms of brand identification.

The 'deuces' of the second game and the three pillars of the third title became synonymous with Treyarch's series, so the unusual logo at least continues the one smidgen of instantly-recognisable marketing material Black Ops has. If they changed it up now, what other signifiers would they be left with, the colour orange?

Whether the new title has any deeper meaning in regards to the game's content (like the '1' in Battlefield 1 referring to the WW1 setting, or the 'V' in Metal Gear Solid V standing for Venom Snake) is still unclear, but one thing's for certain: be prepared for plenty of jokes when the logo is officially revealed.
