Another year, another Call of Duty starts lumbering into view. For 2018's instalment we've got fan-favourites Treyarch back on development duties, and the series is returning to the Black Ops timeframe, albeit setting this sequel between BlOps 2 and 3. It means the devs can pick and choose the best elements of the "future" timeline, without going so far as to repeat the mind-melding and dream-filled madness of Black Ops 3.

As such, this is turning into one of the most experimental in the franchise's history. We've got a new health system for the first time in a decade, continued implementation of the divisive "Specialists" (essentially the franchise's version of superheroes), map usage tweaks, more super-powers, sci-fi style weaponry and everything in between.

Black Ops 4 will also be the first COD to ship with a battle royale mode (Blackout), though at time of writing, the only details on that relate to a beta coming later in September.

For now we've had the private beta on PS4 (with another coming on the weekend of August 11th), and there is a LOT to talk about...
