Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs

Downs...

5. It's Like Battlefield...But Not As Good

Call of Duty Modern Warfare
Activision

Almost immediately after diving into a match of 32v32 Ground War, players would be forgiven for assuming they were actually playing a Battlefield game rather than the latest Call of Duty.

In addition to the larger-scale combat, the HUD and general map layout feels far more akin to Battlefield, albeit executed without the same level of polish or panache.

Given that fans have been asking for larger teams for years, it's great to see Activision finally pushing ahead with it, though it's tough to escape the feeling that the end result is really just a watered-down Battlefield, with less intuitive map design, spawns and so on.

While Battlefield brilliantly realises the push-and-pull of war, on the basis of this beta Modern Warfare's epic battles feel more like an attempt to throw everything fans could possibly want at the wall and see what sticks.

It's not bad by any means, but it does feel rather sloppy in all of its chaos.
