Cancelled Mass Effect FPS That Became Mass Effect 3's Multiplayer Pictures Leak

Bioware's goal was "to create a standalone multiplayer experience in the Mass Effect universe that would mix the play styles of Unreal Tournament and Battlefield 1943 — and likely be released as a downloadable game."

According to a new iPad app that reveals new behind-the-scenes information on Mass Effect 3, Bioware were working on a Mass Effect FPS back in 2010 that was ultimately cancelled. In the app, titled The Finals Hours of Mass Effect 3, games journalist Geoff Keighley wrote that Bioware's goal was "to create a standalone multiplayer experience in the Mass Effect universe that would mix the play styles of Unreal Tournament and Battlefield 1943 €” and likely be released as a downloadable game." Considering how appealing the three aforementioned games sound together in one sentence, gamers will probably be looking at the leaked pictures and mourning that this project never came to fruition. What was to be the downloadable online shooter was eventually integrated into Mass Effect 3 as a co-op mode, so not all was in vain. Still, Mass Effect-Unreal-Battlefield hybrid FPS... Sounds good, doesn't it? Shame we never got to see it. You can find out more about the cancelled Mass Effect FPS over at the app's official website.
