9. It Isn't Scary

Moving away from superficial concerns, the real problems come when actually trying to settle into the experience of Dead Space 3. The original Dead Space remains one of the scariest and most unsettling gaming experiences of this generation, drawing influence from science fiction movies like Alien and Event Horizon to deliver a tense atmosphere quite like no other game out there. Dead Space 2 was the Aliens of the series, more action-orientated but still tripwire tense and absolutely capable of scaring the Hell out of us. This demo, however, seems completely devoid of the mood and tension that typified the previous games; waltzing through the snow, there's no fear or sense of confinement, and while this snow portion may account for only a small part of the game, it's not a particularly smart section to assign to a demo if it's to be representative of the game as a whole. It's not at all scary, and there's another big reason why that's the case...
