Not only is your gear gone, but those subclasses you know and love are more than likely on their way out as well. Let's dip our toes into a little bit of lore to figure out why this may be the case.

So that big orb sitting at Earth is the Traveler, and with its arrival it brought about the Golden Age; a huge rush of new technology that allowed humans to go forth and colonize other planets. Along with the Traveler came the Light, which guardians use for their abilities and where their "subclasses" come from. Also given by the Traveler were the Ghosts, the A.I. which aids guardians and resurrects them from death.

A keen eye will show that during the reveal trailer, the Traveler is being encased in some sort of shield, more than likely from the Cabal. No Ghosts are seen during the reveal and no guardians use their abilities, outside of Ikora Rey who uses hers in a flashback. No Ghosts and no Traveler means no Light for the guardians, which means no subclasses.

With the lore out of the way, we can dive into promotional material that hints at all this even further. On Destiny's official site, a little information is given on what the game is and where the story is going. At one point it says, "[Cabal leader Ghaul] has stripped the city's Guardians of their power, and forced the survivors to flee. You will... discover an arsenal of weapons and devastating new combat abilities."

No more power and new combat abilities sure sound a whole lot like those arc, void and solar classes we have come to love are no more. With Destiny 2 there's a good chance we will be looking at new subclasses that may even be centered around something other than void, arc or solar.
