Blizzard knows exactly how to create an epic cinematic. With their latest Diablo 3 television spot, they have continued to prove that this skill is not going anywhere and with Diablo 3 only a few weeks away, it seems rather fitting that marketing would kick up in case you’re one of the few people unaware of the legendary development of Diablo 3.
One thing to note is the lack of actual gameplay in the trailer. I feel that this could potentially be very misleading for consumers. Not in the sense that Diablo 3 will be anything less than an epic adventure, but more that Blizzard’s games never feel true to the insanely well crafted cinematics that accompany their titles. I may be one of the only people who believes this, but when you witness a stunning CGI trailer of grand scale and then play a top-down dungeon crawler, it just never feels like what you would end up expecting once you have the game in your grasp.
Perhaps this is foolish to even consider, but it does bring up one very important question of whether or not the average consumer would be affected by this type of marketing? What do you think? Have you ever seen a CGI cinematic as an advertisement, purchased the game, and then felt let down by what you bought? Check out the trailer below and let us know how you feel.

Do your homework before making a purchase, its as simple as that. I for one love seeing the great cinematic’s developers put out there. For example, Far Cry 3′s trailer, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hagybDmq48Q. I know the game play isn’t going to be anything like that but it was sure fun to watch. Just my two cents.
I would definitely agree. I know I’ve had this conversation a couple of times with friends on the topic of CGI trailers vs. Gameplay trailers. It seemed like most of them agree with you Kevin. Personally, I love them as well, but I usually already know a great deal about the game before the CGI trailer, so I’ve normally already decided if I’ll get it or not.
