Dragon’s Dogma has officially become Capcom’s 55th title to reach 1 million copies shipped. This achievement comes hand in hand with the Action RPG setting a first-week sales record in Japan. In addiiton, the PS3 version of the game sold well over 300,000 units alone in Japan. This is certainly a great achievement for a brand new gaming IP.
With the success of the title in hand, Capcom has officially confirmed that they will be developing a sequel to Dragon’s Dogma. Hopefully, the team will be able to provide a small amount of DLC support before jumping into full production sometime in the future.
My time with Dragon’s Dogma was brief yet it was enough to see the charm for those who enjoy a good RPG. With a surprisingly deep combat system running underneath the game it presented a welcome change in a genre of often clunky controls. Dragon’s Dogma lacked a co-op mode which would have created an entirely new dynamic for the game, and surely have pleased many fans. Flaws and all, the positive response to the game has provided Capcom with all that they needed to know.

Our only hope is that Capcom finds a way to work in a great co-op mechanic that will take adventuring against insane mythical creatures to an entirely different level. Make it happen Capcom, we’ll be waiting.

My hope for this series is to include co-op, but not to make the mistake of forsaking AI for it. They developed the AI in the first game, and I hope they use that as a stepping stone to create a title with both excellent AI and co-op capability. With something that’s truly the best of both worlds, they could do no wrong as long as they make the combat as fantastic as the first.
I definitely agree. It would be amazing to have drop-in/drop-out co-op to where when a friend joins, they just substitute for the A.I. That way players who prefer the single-player can enjoy in solitude, but also support the multiplayer dynamic.
Also, does anyone know if the climbing aspect provided an opportunity to find weaknesses in your enemies? That would be super fly.
