After Sony’s press conference there was one title that had not appeared. One that has PS3 gamers en masse chomping at the it, for any morsel of information. Another E3 has come and gone, yet we are still no clearer on when The Last Guardian is coming out, or at this point just where it is.
The elusive exclusive from Sony’s famed first party studio Team Ico. With a somewhat troubled development and Studio head Fumito Ueda leaving Sony back in December 2011. He did state however that regardless of his departure he would still oversee the project. His leaving has undoubtedly had an affect on the development process.
Speaking with Gamespot the Senior Vice President of Product Development, Scott Rohd said that,
I will not give you a detailed update, but I will say one thing. It goes back in my mind to innovation and to gamers and to quality. That title is going to ship when it is absolutely ready.
And I think that’s a really important thing to remember; that it would be very easy to ship a game when it’s not quite ready because we need to meet a business plan. Gamers are first. And the experience that we provide is first. And that’s why we’re going to talk about that game when we’re ready to talk about it.
While it is admirable that they’re working to make it the est game it can possibly be, unhindered by time constraints, many remember how long it took Gran Turismo 5 to get out of the door. Questions on whether such a long development time is really necessary are already starting to surface.
If it does turn out to be a wonderful experience then really we have nothing to worry about.
