E3 2013 Predictions

e3 E3 2013 is quite possibly the most exciting and anticipated E3 ever. The Entertainment Expo is always the Superbowl of video games, for lack of a better analogy, and the first part of every year is filled with the anticipation of the event. Unfortunately in the past few years E3 has been a little disappointing with Sony focusing on PS Vita and PS Move, Microsoft obsessed with Kinect and Nintendo being Nintendo. That€™s not to say we haven€™t seen some great things, last year alone we seen The Last Of Us, Watch Dogs and the confusing Wii U presentations. The biggest reason it€™s been a slow past year or so, is because each company has been very focused on the next generation of consoles. We€™ve all knew they were coming sooner rather than later and our suspicions were confirmed when Sony invited everyone to €˜see the future€™. Since then the internet has been fixated with the new systems, the features and the games. With the Wii U releasing last year, Sony unveiling the PS4, not literally, and Microsoft lifting the curtain on the Xbox One, next-gen excitement is at fever-pitch. Now seems as good a time as any to speculate what we might see from each company at E3.

Wii U

Wii U Ah Nintendo, the one-time kings of video games. Nintendo started the eight generation of gaming with the Wii-U, a year before the competition but sadly, for the first time ever Nintendo will not be holding an E3 conference. This came as a surprise to many as it will be the first time since the inception of E3 that Nintendo aren€™t there to bring a much more light-hearted and less competition-based side to the event. Of course this isn€™t the worst thing in the world but to many it seems like Nintendo admitting defeat. The Wii-U has not been a huge success, largely due to lack of games, poor marketing and thus consumer confusion, this years E3 could have been where Nintendo saved some face and started to move forward with the machine. Instead they€™ve bowed out and left the centre stage to Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo will still be at E3 and they€™ll have a new Smash Bros. to show off at the event, which is a reason to be excited but the lack of a conference from the gaming juggernaut is simply disheartening. For Nintendo fans who€™ve been there for the NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii and now Wii-U, it€™s very disappointing and leaves us speculating the future of the company. The things we expect to see from Nintendo at E3 include the new Smash Bros., Zelda, Pikmin3 and Mario Kart. These are big sellers for Nintendo and would usually help ship units worldwide and hopefully still will but gamers are still reeling a bit on the whole Nintendo side of things.
