With 2016 being a phenomenal year for video games - and little else - it proved one thing: The games industry has finally picked itself up after the disastrous first half of this generation, and is starting to release incredible game after incredible game.

Right now all that's confirmed is the release schedule for the first quarter, but taking that and the rest of 2017 into account, we've got everything from Red Dead Redemption 2, to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and a TON more. Time will tell if any of these games (inevitably) get delayed, but providing everything I've included releases before Christmas 2017, it will easily be the best year for gaming so far.

Let us know in the comments what you're most looking forward to, as we run down all 18 major titles, ranked in terms of anticipation...

18. Ghost Recon: Wildlands

Like The Division crossed with Just Cause 3, Ubisoft are continuing their exploration of "bigger is better, right?" with Ghost Recon: Wildlands. The only problem is, so far they're yet to show any gameplay scenarios, mechanics or otherwise that look innovative, nuanced, or all that original.

It's no secret the studio like to share assets amongst their in-house studios, and as everything from the car handling to shooting, world size and character design looks like a hybrid of Watch Dogs, Far Cry and The Division, it's going to take a minor miracle to upend Wildlands' expectations in the eyes of the public.
