Far Cry: New Dawn - 8 Details You Need To Know

One of the many trailers we saw at The Game Awards 2018 was the colourful Far Cry: New Dawn. Due for release in February, the trailer was crammed with details about just what’s in store for players when the game drops. While some games just put out teasers to highlight some themes, Far Cry went full throttle.

We met some new characters (and in true Far Cry style, they’ve got more than a few screws loose), as well as some more familiar faces. Activities were hinted at, terrains were revealed and a pig ate someone’s face. The trailer truly had it all.

The box art was released too, and the colourful landscape on show there seems to be present in the game as well. Lush, overgrown, untamed vines crawled around buildings and sprouted flowers as new, brightly painted weapons and vehicles tore through enemies and dirt tracks respectively.

With so many great games in their back catalogue, it’s easy to see where New Dawn has drawn inspiration from previous games in the franchise. If they can deliver on the trailer’s promise, it’ll be a hugely enjoyable experience for players.

This hasn’t been confirmed yet, but just based on the trailer alone it seems to be a very likely part of the game. There’s a lot of vehicular action in the few minutes of footage we get, but most interesting is towards the end as trailer switches to first person.

As with all Far Crys, that’s the perspective we’ll be playing from, so showing that angle seems to suggest it’s showing us what the gameplay will actually be like. One of the things it shows us is our (as yet unrevealed) protagonist driving around a dirt track.

Despite life threatening danger around every corner, Far Cry has always managed to squeeze in some recreational activities too. The maps are usual populated by locals absolutely off their rockers, and normally they’ll want you to provide them with entertainment before they help you. In some cases, they’ll even kidnap you and force you to beat their Herculean trials.

Racing is a fairly standard mini game, and versions of it have been included in Far Cry before. The trippy drug fuelled hallucinations of Far Cry 4 are still the sidequest to beat, though.
