FIFA 14: 10 EPL Players Who Will Definitely Be Over-Rated

10. Stewart Downing

Team: West Ham Sam Allardyce might believe he's got a bargain, having signed the former Middlesbrough and Aston Villa winger for a small slither of what big-spending, not-really-valuing-properly Liverpool shelled out for him, but going on last season's form, they've arguably paid too much for the sometimes England midfielder. To his credit, Allardyce is aware that the player has failed to live up to his early promise in recent years, and openly confessed on signing him that he was hoping he'd signed the Aston Villa Downing, rather than the Liverpool version. It makes sense: after tall, Stoke City clearly signed the Liverpool Michael Owen, rather than the bench-dwelling self-apologist, and Newcastle United famously signed the Liverpool Ian Rush, as opposed to the old man with a moustache who scored an impressive one goal for them. Anyway, given Downing's form in his first season at Anfield, EA Sports clearly valued the Aston Villa Downing, since he was improbably good last time out, and there's very little chance that will change, with him back playing first team football. He was a 79 last season - roughly 25 points higher than he should have been in real terms, and if he's anywhere above the 70 mark, which he probably will be, the ratings team are being too generous again.
