Imagine a world where Riyad Mahrez can't even get a 90.

EA's gargantuan FIFA franchise is often accused of overrating certain players, an accusation thrown around year after year. Quick, attacking footballers are often given a stat boost over their more solid, less-flashy counterparts, despite proving to be more consistent or valuable to their teams in real life.

Sometimes, however, a player will enjoy a spectacular season, only to be rewarded with a lowly rating once the latest instalment of the game is released - and this year is no exception. Fans will always believe their favourite teams and players to have been sold short, but their gripes may have a more legitimate edge this time around.

It is, of course, an incredibly tricky task to replicate the ability of a real sportsman in video game form - accounting for pace, power, versatility and consistency - but this year has seen a number of particularly baffling oversights. The life of a FIFA developer, eh?

From those who bossed the Premier League last year to emerging forces from across the globe, we've listed the 15 most criminally underrated players in FIFA 17. There are even a couple of those new legend cards in there...

15. Raheem Sterling - Manchester City

Rating: 82

I can understand why EA decided to rate Raheem Sterling a fairly lowly 82, given the torrid time he had last season. However, the former Liverpool man has made an explosive start to the season, and seems to have a new sense of purpose under Pep Guardiola.

After his 2015/16 campaign, it was a little too easy to forget that Sterling is one of the brightest young prospects in English football, and that players of the highest pedigree can disappear for a season or more (just look at Eden Hazard and Yaya Toure). He certainly looks to be back on track now.
